Covid-19 has changed the entire education scenario of the nation. With the cancellation of CBSE Class 12th board exams, there have been demands from parents, students and academicians across the country to cancel the JEE Main entrance exam, which is conducted for the admission in NITsIITsIIITs and other top government/ private engineering colleges in the country. Several campaigns are being run on social media platforms with regard to the postponement/ cancellation of JEE Main entrance exam. However, HRD Minister confirmed that there is no change in the exam date of JEE Main, and the government will review the situation in the first week of July 2020. Before thinking about the cancellation of JEE Main, we must have an idea or awareness on what impact will it have on the serious students who spend at least a year to prepare for this exam. How will JEE Main Cancellation Affect Serious Students?

We all know that certain students prepare for JEE Main and JEE Advanced at least a year in order to get admission in IITs. These students work rigorously to achieve their goal. Cancellation of JEE Main will affect these students as their preparation will go into vain. At the same time, students may go into depression if IIT/ NIT admissions are based on Class 12th marks. However, this situation will not arise and the government will consider all possibilities to conduct the JEE Main exam.
Recently, IITs have also opined that the cancellation of JEE Main is not the best option. As admission to IITs is a serious matter, it should be based on the JEE Main and Advanced only.

How will JEE Main Cancellation Affect B.Tech Admission Process 2020?

If the JEE Main exam is cancelled for the year 2020, it will have a great impact on B.Tech admission process for the academic session 2020-21. While IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs consider JEE Main rank for admission, cancellation of exam will lead to changes in the admission rules. If Class 12th marks are to be considered for admission, some students may not get admission in their preferred college.
For example, if a student scored 85% in board exams and 90 percentile in JEE Main, he/ she will be advantageous if considered JEE Main rank. If board exam marks are considered for the same, the student may not get admission in college as per his choice or preference.
States that conduct their own entrance exams will also face this issue if exams are cancelled. Therefore, cancellation of entrance exams cannot be the best option.
